Manufacturing Week 2008

June 04 2010 - Breakfast
HST and Its Impact on Manufacturing

In a little over two months, the retail sales tax systems in Ontario will be eliminated from July 1, 2010 and replaced by a Harmonized Sales Tax with the federal Goods and Services Tax. Since the initial announcement, many new HST rules have been released and there is now only a short period of time to prepare for the new tax. There are a number of considerations and impacts that manufacturers should be aware of including:

• understanding the HST impacts for variations of manufacturing including toll and contract manufacturing;
• manufacturers of certain items that are subject to point of sale rebates and the reporting requirements;
• practical concerns involved with the transition from RST to HST in the manufacturing sector; and
• restricted input tax credits which will impact a number of manufacturers and the various options provided by Canada Revenue Agency;

Lloyd McMaster of PriceWaterhouseCoopers will lead us through a presentation on these topics and provide time for discussion and questions and answers.
